The Student Executive Committee shall also assist the Executive Committee in volunteer coordination, marketing, events, and membership on behalf of the organization. The Student Committee shall be comprised of four Student Members that are elected at large by the Student Members. Such elections shall comply with the rules and regulations as set by the Nominations and Elections Committee."

In this early election, please vote for two student nominees.

About the Nominees

Madison Hönig - I am a third year PhD student in evolutionary anthropology at Washington State University. I received my BSc in biology and evolutionary anthropology from the University of Toronto in 2020 and M.A. in evolutionary anthropology at Washington State University in 2022. My research is focused on how exposure to environmental endocrine disruptors, such as perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), shapes the timing of life history events such as puberty. I work with the Utila Child Health Project (UCHP), a long-term collaborative research project between Boston University and Washington State University looking at the relationship between cultural, environmental, and biological factors impacting growth, development and health among children living in Utila, Honduras. In my role, I hope to advocate for making participation in professional development opportunities such as conferences through HBA more accessible to students, particularly international student. I hope to expand our inclusion of community engagement and interdisciplinary research with the goal of highlighting and holding space for graduate student research using interdisciplinary and community engaged approaches. I have held various leadership roles at Washington State University including, but not limited to, Graduate Student Representative for the College of Arts and Sciences and Graduate Student Senator for the Department of Anthropology. I also worked as the Chair of the WSU Anthropology Department’s Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee where I implemented the mutual aid fund to support graduate students experiencing financial emergencies.

Courtney Manthey - Courtney Manthey is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Montana, focusing on the study of ancient DNA and the genetic factors associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) within ancestral populations in the Pacific region. In addition to her doctoral studies, Courtney is a Research Affiliate at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Research Collaborator for the Rural Embodiment and Community Health (REACH) project, and Project Manager on the NSF-funded project, “The effects of shared markers of identity on inflammation and stress” (The University of Alabama and Baylor University). Courtney has also been a Junior Service Fellow for the Human Biology Association for a year and a half where she serves as social media manager and guest co-hosts the Sausage of Science podcast.
