Human Biology Association Officer and Committee Elections 2025 Candidate Information |
Below are the positions, a description of each position, and candidates for the 2025 HBA Election Cycle. Elections this year are for the following positions: President Elect, Development Chair, International Chair, Nominations and Elections Committee Members (x2), and Publications Committee Members (x2). See each section for a description of the position, the candidates' names, and links to their CVs and platform statements. |
President Elect (serves a 1-year term as President-Elect, followed by a 2-year term as President, and after that, a 1-year term as Past President). Duties include the following: 1) provide leadership to the profession, the Executive Committee and the membership, and to represent the Association, as needed; 2) appoint committee chairs as needed; 3) work with the Executive Committee and standing committees on issues that arise, and with the Program Chair on the arrangement and content of the annual meetings; 4) set the agenda for and chair the Executive Committee meeting (the Tuesday evening before the annual meeting begins) and the Business Meeting; 5) handle the ceremonial duties regarding the Boas Award and the EE Hunt Student Prize at the Awards Luncheon
Development Chair (serves a 4-year term). Duties include the following: 1) responsible for leading fundraising and development opportunities for the Organization; 2) oversees all aspects of fundraising, including but not limited to, planning and budgeting, managing volunteers, and setting the vision, strategy, and goals for further development of the Organization; 3) represents the Organization to donors, partners, and media to further the non-profit goals of the Organization.
International Representative (serves a 4-year term). Duties include the following: 1) form an effective liaison between international members and the Executive Committee; 2) represent the interests of the international members at Executive Committee meetings and at the Annual business Meeting. The IR is a non-North American member of the Association.
Nominations and Elections Committee (two positions available; serve a 2-year term). Duties include the following: in coordination with the President and Secretary and under direction from an annually appointed chair, form slates for yearly HBA elections and solicit nominations for Boas and Little awards.
Publications Committee (two positions available; serve a 2-year term). Duties include the following: 1) judge student papers and posters for the Student Prizes (Hunt and Spielvogel); 2) consider any publication-related issues, including paper/book prizes, proposals for HBA sponsored publications or from the publisher (currently Wiley Blackwell); 3) make recommendation to the Executive Committee.
